‘Mini Cruise Ride from Triveni Sangam to Sujawan Dev Temple’
‘Sail to Sujawan’ is the first-ever heritage boat ride experience in Prayagraj from Triveni Sangam to the Island temple of Sujawan Dev in Bhita (Ghoorpur). Yachting at the pristine waters of mighty Yamuna is an unmissable play, a perfect ecstasy of spirits filled with excitement and experiential delights that tune in harmony with the untraveled waters of History, Culture and Civilizations of the chronicle past.
On the Tour:
A private Mini Cruise/Motor Boat at your leisure will ferry you along the river Yamuna on a fascinating ride. You will get to feel both the religious and historic aspect of the river as you sail along. We start our tour at the epic Triveni Sangam – the holy confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mystical river Saraswati where the world’s largest religious congregation ‘The Kumbh Mela’ takes place in every 6, 12 and 144 years. A dip at Sangam is said to free one of all sins committed on Earth and librates from the cycle of rebirth.
Mankameshwar Temple & Allahabad Fort:
On the ride we see ‘Mankameshwar’ temple where the Shivling was actually built by Lord Rama himself (during exile period) as Sita, his wife wished to offer her prayers to Lord Shiva followed by her ritual bathing at the Sangam.
The massive Allahabad fort was built in 1583 & was captured by The East India Company in 1798. The fort is world famous for its 3rd century Ashoka pillar and underground temple called the Patalpuri mandir the place was visited by Lord Rama and Bhakt Prahalada followed by famous Chinese traveler ‘Hiuen Tsang’ who is said to have visited this temple in the 7th century CE. An ancient palace can be seen overlooking the Yamuna that was once the residence of company officials. The fort is one among the largest garrisons in India right from the British times. The much revered Akshayavat or the Undying Banyan Tree is situated firm close to the south wall and can be viewed along our boat ride. In the olden days the pilgrims use to throw themselves from the tree in order to attain salvation.
About Sujawan Dev:
The ancient Sujawan Dev temple is located on a rock island in the middle of river Yamuna and is an archaeological wonder in Bhita Village 25 km from Prayagraj.
As per legends, the five Pandavas along with Yudhishthira stayed in this temple for a few days during their period of unknown exile in Dvapara Yuga (3rd out of 4 Yugas – Ages in Hinduism). Over the years the location has become a tourist hotspot after a few Bollywood movies, including Omkara, were shot here. Apart from a statue of Shringara Devi from Kushan era, Sita Rasoi and Sujawan Dev Shivling the area is famous as an ancient Buddhist site supposed to be a monastery under Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
